Print, pattern and explosive colour defines House of Holland. Henry talks us through the inspiration for his collection for Habitat.
FANTASY ON FILM
House of Holland’s SS16 collection was inspired by Hunter S. Thompson’s book and the 1998 cult film, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The collection for Habitat was very much based on this. “I love taking reference from films because I’m fascinated with the characterisation of fashion and the way that you can build up an idea of a person without even having the sound turned up.”
“Colour is a very big part of what we do as a brand and it’s what we’re known for: mixing and matching bold and playful colours with print. I love how wearing colour makes you feel different; it can make you feel mischievous and happy and you have to be carrying a certain attitude underneath if you’re wearing a lot of colour. Colour plays a massive part in injecting a sense of fun.”
“A lot of the botanical prints were inspired by the 70’s casinos and hotel suites within the film and the whole film has an almost psychedelic pink hue which directly inspired the Tropical Leaf print. We took a lot of the prints from the interior sets of the film and put them onto clothes and now we’re putting them back onto homewares. It feels like we’ve come full circle.”
