Dressing tables buying guide

Dressing tables were invented to help bleary-eyed folk wake up and face the day (or night, as it were). At least that’s what we believe here at Habitat, so we’ve designed a range that is as glamorous and useful as its 20th century predecessors.

Whether you’re applying makeup, picking out jewellery or sipping a gin and tonic before a night on the tiles, a dressing table is the ideal perch to primp and get ready to go.

From oak to birch, ultra feminine to neutral chic, amply sized or compact, we have a dressing table that will suit your space and needs. So have a gander at our Habitat Dressing Table Guide and decide which one will help you look your best for the day ahead.

What are the different types of dressing table at Habitat?

We know that some people want a dressing table to be front and centre, whilst others see it as a practical piece of kit tucked out of the way. From classic styling to modern minimalism – we therefore have it all.

You could choose a dressing table with or without drawers or even opt out of a mirror. From oak to birch or ash to high gloss, we tick all of the boxes.

How do I choose a dressing table?

Choosing the right dressing table centres around the look you’d like to achieve.

  • Will your dressing table sit in a bedroom or a proper dressing room?
  • Would you like it to be a statement piece?
  • If so, where can it fit in the room you've chosen and which accessories will you need to complete the look?

Habitat has bedroom collections that let you mix and match pieces, or maybe you’d rather go for a complete set in a unifying style.

Which dressing table is best for me?

Large rooms

If you’re after a natural, traditional finish with a bit of quirk, our Fleur oak dressing table could be just the ticket. Its mix-matched ceramic knobs give just the right amount of whimsy, while a whopping five drawers provide ample room for jewellery, make-up and accessories. Fleur has a matching mirror available to buy separately, and an even broader bedroom collection to complete the look.

Small rooms

For smaller bedrooms and tight spaces, the Limbo dressing table is a charming choice. Made from solid oak, the sturdy and stylish table has two handy drawers for storage and comes with an adjustable mirror. The set even includes a stool which neatly stores away when not in use; it’s the perfect nifty dressing table to tuck into any room.

Statement piece

For the ultimate showstopper, look no further than the Emil dressing table. Already famous amongst Habitat bloggers, this dressing table has it all. The classic styling is gorgeous for a start, but the proportions are really pretty practical too. Complete with an oversized, round mirror and five-drawer storage, it’s the obvious choice if you’d like your dressing table to make a statement. A coordinating grey fabric stool rounds off the look to perfection.

Habitat classic

A firm Habitat favourite, the Tatsuma dressing table combines warm oak with a modern white lacquer finish. It’s a loveable all-rounder; it goes well in homes that have a clean, Scandi vibe but could also give a nice contrast to classic schemes. Tatsuma’s wide top provides plenty of space to spread out all of your pretty little things in comfort.

Which accessories can my dressing table be teamed with?

Mirrors

Although most of our dressing tables come with a mirror, if you’re not into the matchy matchy aesthetic, it’s easy to buy one of our other mirrors for an eclectic look.

Storage

Think carefully about how much storage you’ll need – it’s always much easier to solve problems at the start. You may even need an extra chest of drawers if you have lots of stuff. Many of our dressing tables have coordinating pieces as part of a range for this very reason.

Seating

To really enjoy your ‘me time’, you’ll need a comfortable stool or chair to sit on while going about your business. Select Habitat dressing tables have a matching stool available to buy, though it may be included in the price. Be sure to check the height of your dressing table before purchasing a stool or chair so that you’re in a comfortable position to complete your morning prep.

How do I look after my dressing table?

Take as much care for your dressing table as you would creating your look.

For wood finishes, wipe with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Be careful not to scratch your table and, most crucially, don’t place wet or hot items directly onto the dressing table.

Remove any liquid spills immediately with an absorbent cloth or paper towel and don’t let the table have contact with abrasive, alcohol, or solvent based cleaning agents.
