WHAT SIZE OF DRESSING TABLE DO YOU NEED?
Dressing tables were invented to assist in the process of making us look beautiful - and at Habitat we love the idea that this is a functional piece of furniture that’s all about something frivolous. With this in mind, we’ve worked hard to design a range that is as decadent as it is useful; think various styles, shapes and storage potential. The question is, what do you require in order to help you face the day (or a glamorous evening) ahead?
If you’re a beauty junkie, famous for snapping up every new lotion and potion on the market, then we suggest you plump for a large dressing table - one with plenty of space to spread out those moisturisers or curling creams, lipsticks and eyeliners. Maybe you’re something of a magpie, with an eye for shiny jewellery and all manner of things that sparkle. In this case you’ll need enough surface area to pop your various jewellery boxes, and maybe a design with drawers. The latter will ensure things stay neat, not to mention keep safe those more valuable, sentimental pieces. If the floor space is an issue, we have small dressing tables too, each designed to provide you with a practical area in which you can do your hair and make-up, without taking over the whole room. To this end, a narrow or slim dressing table works wonders. They're nicely neat and compact, while still providing a place for you to sit and primp and preen.
A room with a dressing table is immediately elevated in terms of elegance, that’s why Habitat believe it to be the perfect piece of statement furniture. There’s something so chic about it, no matter the style or era from which its design is inspired - therefore rest assured that from classically ornate to modern and minimalist, we have it all.
Before you excitedly purchase though, make sure you measure your room first - there’s nothing beautiful about furniture that’s so big it leaves no room to manoeuvre around the side of yourFirst, simply measure the height and length of the wall against which you plan to place the dressing table (remembering to double check the depth you have to play with), then compare with your chosen table’s dimensions - this will help you to gauge whether the balance is right. All our product pages list the relevant information, helping to prevent measuring mishaps. There’ll be no beauty blunders on our watch.
WHAT STYLES, MATERIALS AND COLOURS DO HABITAT'S DRESSING TABLES COME IN?
A dressing table may help us to look our most stylish, but what style would you like in terms of its design? If a natural, somewhat traditional finish is to your taste, then our wooden dressing tables are the perfect choice. Beautifully timeless, this finish also projects a slightly bohemian vibe, particularly when paired with quirky drawer knobs - mix and match for the ultimate artistic touch. Another classic option is oak, a finish that plays into this idea that the dressing table errs on the side of vintage. Strong and imposing, oak always means business, yet you could always go fully retro with an actual vintage dressing table itself. If your style is mainly modern, don’t fret - interior designers often encourage contrasting old-school pieces with current popular shapes.
If you are a fan of the Scandi look, then a gloss dressing table is ideal for adding a contemporary touch. Have you ever considered a white dressing table? Long gone are the days when such a thing gave a nod to the eighties. On the contrary, white furniture expertly complements today’s love for clean, minimalist colour schemes. Speaking of colour, for dressing tables the world is your oyster- we’ve everything from black to green, and a number of colours in between.
Basic aesthetics aside, there are many dressing table specifics to consider. Do you want a dressing table with a mirror? If so, we have plenty to choose from, but you can always try accessorising with one of your own - if you’re not into the matchy matchy look and feel. Simply buy one of our other mirrors and nail to the wall above. This is the perfect trick for creating an eclectic vibe.
And what about a question of drawers? No, we aren’t talking undergarments (although many women do prefer to keep their lingerie in a dressing table, presumably inspired by its feminine nature), but if you have lots of bits and bobs then it’s best to keep them covered. After all, there’s no point buying a stunning piece ofthen covering it with several cans of hairspray. You may even consider buying a separate to help keep all those vanity pieces in check - many of our dressing tables have such pieces in their range for this very reason.
One more thing, is to consider whether or not you’d like a dressing table with a stool? To really enjoy your ‘me time’, you’ll need a comfortable stool or chair to sit on, and at Habitat we have dressing tables with matchingas well as stools that are sold separately. (Again, perfect for those who aren’t into specifically matching.) If you do choose to buy separately, remember to check the height of your dressing table before purchasing. Perfecting that hairdo will be ever so difficult if you can only see part of your head, so have a practice first to see which height is your optimum primping position.
In this instance, we think you’ll agree it’s worth a dress rehearsal.
