Patrick Caulfield (1936-2005) is known as the godfather of British Pop Art. Through his use of strong lines and flat colour palette, he enables us to experience art and beauty in the mundane and everyday objects around us that we would normally overlook. His work has been widely exhibited in museums and collections internationally and he is considered by artists and art lovers as an icon of British art. |
Hayward Gallery exhibited a stunning retrospective of his paintings and prints in 1999 and it is very clear to see the huge influence that he has had in shaping some of the very finest of our contemporary artists in Britain today. Tate Britain will be exhibiting his work in June 2013.
