WHAT SOFT FURNISHINGS ARE AVAILABLE TO BUY AT HABITAT?
When it comes to enhancing the beauty of your home, soft furnishings offer a pièce de résistance, working to add pops of colour, blend varying textures and, overall, effortlessly elevating your existing interior design.
At Habitat we offer a number of soft furnishings, all useful additions to any room in the house. To begin, when adding accessories you can never go wrong with a smattering of cushions. Big or small, patterned or plain, the injection of a cushion or two heightens the comfort factor, switches up the colour palette and creates a feeling of warmth.
Alongside your cushions, throws can work to inject a cosy vibe. Drape them over the back of a chair, or layer different colours and prints for a purely visual accessory. What’s more, on a winter’s evening they work a charm at wrapping around you when lying on the sofa for movie night. Light the fire, pour the hot chocolate and snuggle up to your heart’s content.
Finally, while there are exceptions, very few rooms are complete without the addition of a rug. Acting as a centrepiece style-wise, rugs also provide a cushion of sorts for your feet. For example, a boldly coloured rug in the centre of your room instantly alters the colour palette, while similarly, a soft rug can juxtapose beautifully with rooms that boast a sharp aesthetic.
WHAT ROOMS CAN YOU USE SOFT FURNISHINGS IN?
We’ve highlighted the potential use of throws in the living room, yet when it comes to choosing which rooms you are able to softly adorn, the world is actually your oyster. With cushions, for example, these work well beyond their traditional role of adding comfort to sofas and chairs. One way to utilise their style credentials is to use them to make a statement, piling together a more luxe design - or two - to your current, everyday arrangement. This way, you have plenty of ‘ordinary’ cushions to sit on, plus a couple that elevate the look of your collection – just remember to stove away the luxury styles out of the way come that aforementioned movie night.
Elsewhere in the home, the bedroom often benefits from cushions piled high. This can be aesthetically pleasing (so long as you don’t mind removing them at all to get into bed at night) or practical – a handy source of extra pillows for nights when comfort and sleep just won’t come. Alternatively, traditional suggestions aside, use cushions the Hygge way by taking a tight spot, be it a bay window or seat under the stairs, and turning it into a relaxing nook and cranny.
As for throws, these tend to work in all the same places as cushions – the latter is often found side by side with the former – adding texture to sofas, beds and hallway chairs, not to mention those handy Hygge hideaways.
When choosing where to place your rugs, consider that these are the perfect hallway item, immediately welcoming to anyone who enters your home. In bedrooms they provide a beautifully warm spot to pop your feet on first thing in the morning, while in bathrooms they serve the same purpose post a hot bath, not to mention soak up that excess water. Practical and pretty – our favourite combination.
HOW CAN YOU INCORPORATE SOFT FURNISHINGS INTO YOUR DECOR?
We have already touched upon how soft furnishings can be used not only to add comfort, but to enhance the styling credentials of your home – but what are the specifics?
First up, think about how the colour of your cushions, throws and rugs will work with the rest of the room. If your walls are plain, and the room could do with some print, then this is the perfect way to prep it with pattern. If your sofa is dark and would benefit from some light shades nearby, a rug beside it will do the trick nicely. If you feel your room is too much into the Scandi-esque minimalist vibe, then add pops of colours to bring it out of the white zone.
Alternatively, if you do prefer a minimalist look and feel, with all white or perhaps a monochrome palette, soft furnishings can do exactly what they say on their label – soften the overall aesthetic. One colour can look too pared back, while sumptuous textures effortlessly make the room more inviting.
WHAT OTHER HOME ACCESSORIES CAN YOU USE TO COMPLETE THE LOOK?
Speaking of inviting, there are other ways in which you can enhance your room – and your soft furnishings with it. For example, those throws over the back of your sofa will look lovely when their prints and patterns are brought to life with a spot of light. Likewise, wall art is also wonderful when used in this way, helping to bring out the colour and tones in rugs and cushions. In addition, unique and elaborately designed vases can also elevate your chosen vibe, particularly when adorned with bouquets of flowers – a soft touch if ever we saw one.
