William Scott (1912-1989) British painter, is internationally acclaimed, exhibited and collected. Although he moved effortlessly between figuration and abstraction he is renowned for his exquisite still life and abstract painting. There is quietness to his work that is simply beautiful.

"I no longer worry whether a painting is about something or not. I am only concerned with the expectation, from a flat surface, of an illusion." William Scott's centenary will be celebrated with a major exhibition of his work at Tate St. Ives in January 2013.
