Who are you?
I’m Melanie, I’m a double award-winning interiors & home, DIY & decorating blogger and freelance interior decorator & stylist. I live in Greater London with my husband, young son Jaxon and my King Charles Cavalier.
What’s the day job?
The first half of the day is spent researching, decorating or crafting my next blog post. As a DIY blogger you have to complete a whole project before the post even gets written up. I spend a lot of my time with a paintbrush or a glue gun in my hand. In the afternoon I pick up my toddler from nursery and I juggle responding to emails on my iPhone with pushing Jaxon on the swings. The evening, when he is in bed, I will write up my blog posts and spend time updating the website. Occasionally, I spend a few hours a week at lovely press events checking out new interior products, or taking part in craft workshops.
What does your dream day look like?
I’d wake up, after a bit of a lie-in, to an absolutely clean and pristine house, before taking the dog for a long sunny walk in the forest with my husband and son. I’d do some pottering in the garden before meeting up with my mates for a big boozy long lunch somewhere glamourous. I’d then have a long soak in the bath in the evening with a glass of Malbec and an interiors magazine.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
I’m happy in London; it really is the best city in the world. But I’d also be happy in New York or Singapore.
What’s the first thing you check out when visiting someone’s home for the first time?
Their style. I really think your home reflects who you are. It also tells your story with photographs and treasured possessions on display.
What’s your interior addiction?
Anything brass or gold. I cannot resist. Or anything with birds on. I love a bird in interiors. I have hummingbird wallpaper in the bathroom, mini faux-birds decorating a lampshade and plastic flamingos in the garden.
What makes you really angry?
Littering, sexism, a lack of manners and respect for others.
Pick a favourite film, book and song.
Grease will forever be my favourite film. To a young me, it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.
My favourite book is an interiors book called ‘Old House New Home’ by Ros Byam Shaw. It was the first interiors book I fell in love with and a huge source of inspiration.
Favourite song is hard, but I’m going with ‘Stay Together’ by Suede.
Best place you’ve ever been on holiday?
The Maldives on my honeymoon is hard to top, as holidays go.
What’s your favourite smell?
What single thing would improve your life?
My toddler always eating what’s put in front of him.
What are you bad at that you wish you did well?
What would be your Death Row meal?
The finest port, and cheese with fig chutney.
