The Habitat Pip Wooden Table Lamp Base Only - Natural requires an E27 Edison screw halogen bulb. While it specifies halogen, you can use LED bulbs with an E27 Edison screw base as a more energy-efficient alternative.

In answer to my own question after some research - halogen bulbs are now banned, it is illegal to sell them anymore. Therefore, I am sure the lamp must work with an led bulb - otherwise, surely it could not be sold by Argos anymore?

Halogen bulbs have a gas that heat up around the filament to emit light, while LED bulbs use semiconductor materials that glow when electric current passes through them.

In-line switch means that the On/Off switch is incorporated into the cable between the lamp and plug socket rather than being on the actual lamp itself.
