This simple, elegant design avoids this problem as the grinding mechanism is at the top of the mill, which means any excess grounds fall back inside the unit after use. The innovative design also does away with a long central spindle for the grinding mechanism, which increases its capacity and makes it much easier to fill. No mess, sleek design.
I bought this to use at Christmas. The design is very sleek and no mess, easy to fill and the glass is dishwasher safe. The grind gauge takes seconds to master but care is needed just to turn the grinder centre piece, as the grinder can come off, just needs practice. The pepper grinder is coping well with Kompote pepper that is very hard.

Awful design
Really disappointed with this set as I love the josephjoseph brand. It is so difficult to twist the pots & your hands get covered in salt & pepper. There is little indication as to whether it's coarsely or finely ground & twice the whole top has come off, the condiment has poured out & ruined the food. I have even emailed josephjoseph to tell them what an awful product this is. Don't waste your money - they are quite expensive

Upside down grinders!
These are great! Best feature they are upside down so doesn't cover shelf with ground up bits of salt and pepper Nice pale grey for salt looks lovely with pink salt!

This is a twist open from where the glass meets the plastic, you open it, insert the correct media and then anticlockwise to re-screw it back on.
