The 1400 individual pocket springs respond to body weight across the mattress and provide zoned support where you need it most. While tufting offers a firmer orthopaedic back support and pressure relief. With layers of Eco Comfort fibres for additional comfort; featuring a comfort layer made from recycled bottles which allows natural airflow for a more refreshing night's sleep.
1400 springs held under tension in their own fabric pockets ensure the mattress responds to your body to offer tailored comfort, scientifically proven to help spinal alignment and improve posture. This mattress is finished in a soft damask cover and offers edge to edge support for more sleep space. It provides a firmer comfort rating, with more sustantial back support. After checking with our supplier, they have advised for Silentnight 1400 Pocket Luxury Ortho Mattress - Double.
The mattress is single sided, you cannot turn the mattress over, it just needs to be rotated once a week for the first 6-8 weeks, then once a month after.

The new smell doesn’t last long and should fade within a week or two

If there does seem to be an odour when taking delivery of the Silentnight 1400 Pocket Luxury Ortho Double Mattress, this may take anything from 72 hours to a week to disappear.

Hello Deb. All mattresses are delivered covered in plastic for hygiene reasons. There is a bright yellow warning tab on the mattress to advise not to remove this unless you are happy to keep the it. The mattress would not be returned if classed as used. The way in which you have intended to test the mattress would render the mattress used. For full T&C see the below link.
