Stay away unless on sale
The bed arrives in penalty box weighing over 37kg a poorly packaged, meaning that many components will have cosmetic damage because the delivery drivers manhandling it. The overall build quality is poor with holes not lining up. Can’t recommend purchasing this unless it’s heavily discounted on sale and you have a spare day to assemble it.

Lovely bed
Really lovely bed, looks great especially for the price. Building is relatively easy too just the middle support is too long to fit in and have the holes match up. It look a lot of hammering in to get it to fit. Also the slats all have two screws each to be screwed into the wood which is probably the longest and most annoying part of the building process.

Bad
Poor quality. Headboard has a lot of bounce and feels weak. Screw holes not always provided and the ones provided are uneven. Could not use all screws and dowels bc of misalignment. Overall would not recommend. Bad quality even for the price.

Don’t buy unless you have your own wrench.
For a bed which costs over £200, some of the budget should have gone to the wrench which it comes with. The wrench expanded and broke after tightening 2 bolts. I did not have an extra one at home so it took about 3 days to finish, as I had to go out and buy one. The wood is good quality, and the overall design is nice. Another factor is the screws were low quality as well. I only used a screwdriver as promoted to, and one of the screws bent.

Quality is... Ok
Nice bed, too expensive for the quality though - like others mine had dents and scrapes along the headboard and on other parts too. I reported them and got some money back which made it fair enough, just think for the price the quality should be higher. Mind the build quality itself is sturdy, you will loose your hands to screwing all 52 screws in by hand, it says don't use a drill, just use one on low power please. For the sake of your hands.

Worth the price
I bought it a couple of weeks ago so far very satisfied. Requires two people to assemble.

Platform bed
My 23 year old son picked and built this bed himself and didn’t have any problems, quite sturdy , it’s nice and he loves it , although a bit low to the ground for us oldies

Sturdy guest bed
This bed was bought to replace an ageing metal frame bed in the guest room that simply gave up under the weight of overseas guests Whilst the construction of the bed was very difficult in a limited space, the end result is a very robust bed that could easily support the largest of couples. The only problem with the bed is that it is very low to the floor and difficult to exit for elderly guests

Not the quality I was expecting
Bed delivered on time and all was good. On assembly a few screws were rather rough and needed running through the bolts to prevent cross threading but nothing too drastic. The end of the bed frame had obviously taken a knock and the paint had chipped off leaving a white primer and the headboard is cracked along the timber join lines. I am sending photos to Habitat tonight so they have had no chance to rectify as yet, It looks good from a distance but don't get too close....

Hello Stebert,

A 20–25 cm mattress will leave more of the headboard exposed, giving a lighter appearance.
A 25–28 cm mattress is generally the best balance between comfort and aesthetics.
A 30 cm mattress can also be used if preferred, but it will reduce the visible portion of the headboard.

Hi Jules,
Thanks for your query about the Akio Double Wooden Platform Bed Frame - Natural.
The total height of this bed, at the headboard end and including the headboard, is about 680mm (68cm) so it will be less than the stated 80cm that you require here. You would also need to consider the comfort of any user of the bed too when it comes to whether an 80cm gap is OK for your headroom requirements.
Thanks for using Q&A.
