Who are you?

I’m Sarah Akwisombe, 31yr old design blogger, interior stylist and founder of the No bull Blog School. I live in Croydon with hubby Jason and my 3 yr old daughter Marley.

What’s the day job?

It depends on what day of the week it is! Some days I’m full on business owner, running my online training courses for new bloggers. Almost every day I’m writing blogs or creating content for my own blog or youtube channel, and then a lot of the time I’m prepping for styling jobs too. Every day is varied!

What does your dream day look like?

I love what I do so I’m almost there to be honest – but waking up to a beautiful view of nature in a beautiful mid-century home with a chef, team of people working on my content and someone giving me a shoulder massage at the time wouldn’t be bad! If I could just sit in a comfy chair and answer questions all day I’d be happy. Until I got bored of it, which would probably be all of about 5 days!

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

I’ve never been but Palm Springs looks like heaven. I need to go soon and see if it lives up to the expectation!

What’s the first thing you check out when visiting someone’s home for the first time?

I look for how adventurous they have been with things like colour and bucking trends. A home can look beautiful but if it’s all just pieces out of magazines with no personality or history added then it can feel a little sad to me. I like to see people take products from the high street and mix it in with their own personal pieces to really make it unique.

What’s your interior addiction?

Geometrics. I’m such a sucker. If I see one new art print or tablecloth or cushion with a cool geometric print on it I’m likely to buy it. It’s a real weakness. That and brass.

What makes you really angry?

When people judge others’ sense of style or taste. Who’s to say what qualifies as ‘beautiful’ or ‘classy’? We all grew up with different versions of that in our heads and culture often plays a huge part in it too. There’s a market for everything. That being said I do still catch myself doing it sometimes – I’m trying to get better.

Pick a favourite film, book and song.

Film – the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

Book – was tough to decide between novel and business book here but I’ll go with purple cow by Seth Godin – it really helped me to feel more confident just being ‘me’

Song – The Eagles Hotel California. I grew up as a kid listening to the eagles on long family road trips and so they hold a special place in my heart. Just imagine me in Palm Springs listening to The Eagles. Bliss.

Best place you’ve ever been on holiday?

Tanzania. It’s my husband’s home country and was the most challenging holiday I’ve ever been on. Such a new way of life. Coping with the heat, the extremes in poverty and wealth, the natural beauty… I learnt so much and it was such a beautiful thing to see where my husband grew up.

What’s your favourite smell?

A Bonfire!

What single thing would improve your life?

A clone.

What are you bad at that you wish you did well?

Times tables! I am so rubbish… I don’t know any.

What would be your Death Row meal?

Sweet and Sour chicken with hoi sin sauce on the side.
