The place to be for those in the interior industry, Maison et Objet in Paris is a leading home decor fair, showcasing everything from the best new designers to upcoming trends and must-have collections. Our design team have just returned from the September edition of the trade show, filled with inspiration for the seasons ahead. Here we share the top 5 trends they spotted at the show.
The Golden Touch
Gold is the metallic of the moment and doesn’t look to be going anywhere anytime soon. Expect to see it on everything from tableware to lighting and table legs.
Pink continues to be the colour de rigueur on and off the catwalk, so if you don’t own a pink armchair already, now is the time to invest. Alternatively, tap into the trend with softly blushed serveware that’s sure to be the envy of the table.
The Cosy Factor
The Danish concept of Hygge (roughly translating to ‘cosiness’) remains high on the agenda with a whole exhibition at the show dedicated to comfort (aptly called ‘Comfort Zone’). Chairs were upholstered in shearling, while sofas and armchairs featured soft lines and curved shapes, with deep and enveloping silhouettes.
Modern silhouettes included a collection of “cushions on legs” – a European twist on the Japanese tradition of sitting on cushions. If you like these you’ll definitely like our NAOKO armchair.
In A New Light
Woven lighting steals the spotlight for the seasons ahead – expect to see lots of bamboo and wicker styles in future interior designs.
The industrial trend will be given a modern update in future collections – designers will be looking to tubular steel, thin metal surfaces and steel mesh to give industrial pieces a more refined feel.
