SS16 Staff Picks

Habitat’s new Spring/Summer ‘16 collection is stocked up and ready to go. We could tell you all about this trend, why that colour is the must-have or how this bookcase is going to change your life but we thought it much better to go to the people that know.

The staff at Habitat start dreaming up what we’ll fill our houses with well over a year in advance. They look at new innovations, different fabrications, uncover new sources, scour the world in their quest for the best and then combine it all to ensure that they’re bang on trend, ticking the box for ‘newness’ and working to the bespoke Habitat colour palette. But ultimately they are hell-bent on developing products that they love. And they hope you’ll love them too. Enough to buy them and put them in your homes. Because (without drowning you completely in schmaltz and saccharine), that’s kind of the point.

Here are their personal picks for SS16. Maybe they’ll be yours too. And if not, you can check out the range in its entirety here.

PORCINI TABLE LIGHT, chosen by Matt Long, Furniture Designer

White Table Light

“I love the simple, understated shape of this light in combination with the modern, rubberised finish. The soft, diffused light would make for relaxing mood light in the evening. It’ll definitely be finding its way into my home.”

DABORN CHAIR IN BLACK & WHITE GEOMETRIC FABRIC, chosen by Stephanie Feather, Graphic Designer

Black and white fabric armchair

“The Daborn armchair in the graphic new monochrome print is wooing me considerably this season! This mix of a classic outline with this slightly unexpected geographic gives a nod to the old with a twist of the new. Definitely an investment piece, but a timeless classic none the less – a fresh look, so bold and comfy it will stand the test of time. I’ll take one!”

EZRA THROW & CUSHION, chosen by Gemma Pengilly, Textiles Buyer

Red and grew throw

red and black cushion “My favourite products of the season are the Ezra throw and cushion. It has taken that all round staple, grey, and paired it with this season’s trend for muted shades of pink, without being too girly! Skilled hand loom weavers in India use a fine wool yarn to produce something where you can see and appreciate the work that has gone into making it.  I’d happily lounge with these on my sofa (looks fab with the TOPA rug) or pair with my favourite WASHED bedding in the stone colour to give a new look to my bedroom.”

RAFI DESK LAMP IN PINK , chosen by Kirstin White, Junior Buyer Lighting

Pink and silver desk lamp

I’m really excited to see some of the lovely pink tones that are so prevalent in fashion make their way into homewares. The dusty, muted pink shade of the Rafi desk lamp feels so modern and fresh against the cool grey stem. It’s a very stylish and on-trend bargain at £25. The slim proportions of it are also really delicate, making it a great bedside table lamp. I am particularly fond of the Rafi range as it was named after the Matt Long’s [the designer] son. If pink isn’t your bag, try it in a sleek brushed metal or the matt black and brushed brass floor lamp, new for SS16.

HAMBLY THROW, chosen by Nicola Chau, Graphic Designer

white with black spots throw

“The Hambly throw has caught really my eye from this season’s collection. It’s super soft and lightweight which makes it great for most seasons and the black and white handprint pattern is graphic with the soft pink reverse side is also on trend for this season.
