Do you find yourself this week, on the cusp of Christmas, looking in bewilderment at your oven wondering how the turkey is going to fit? Incredulous as you swore that last Christmas would be the final time you cooked Christmas dinner in that kitchen? Or just resigned indignation as you reattach the cupboard door that keeps falling off every time you open it? 2016 has to be your year for getting a new kitchen.
But isn’t a new kitchen about the most stressful, most time-consuming and most disruptive home update you can do? Well, we’re not going to lie, you’re not going to get a new kitchen chosen, delivered and installed overnight but Habitat is going to make the whole process a lot less aggravating than it needs to be. And, trust us, a new kitchen will change your life, for the better!
Maybe you didn’t realise that Habitat do fitted kitchens. Maybe you’ve seen our swanky new Tottenham Court Road showroom and thought there’s no way you can afford one. Well, in the case of Habitat’s kitchens, don’t trust your instincts. Our showrooms might be all sparkling granite, glossy cupboards and flatscreens to view your design but our team are there to ensure your new kitchen is tailored to your needs, your lifestyle and your budget.
“Generally, as a starting point, we get an idea of your budget and then we work around that”’ explains Mel, Habitat’s Kitchen and Furniture Manager. “Essentially the cabinets are all the same; adding doors, worktops, handles, lighting are all to the customer’s individual choice and we can direct them to items which not only suit the way they live but how much they want to spend. We can be really clever with design details, to make a kitchen in one of the lower price brackets look much more expensive than it really is”.
All Habitat’s kitchens are of German design and build at the largest kitchen manufacturer in the world. Even the cabinets come ready-constructed and machine-pressed to not only ensure they are sturdy but to reduce installation time within your home.
Habitat offers an entirely bespoke service catered to the needs of the individual project; whether you just need delivery because you already have a build team on-site, a basic installation where you are essentially replacing old for new, or a full installation which might involve re-configuring, plumbing, electrics and building works. But where Habitat comes into its own is with the experience, especially regarding design. “Our main objective is to get the best design”’ explains Mel. “Not only in terms of ‘this door with that worktop’ but how you live: do you have a young family; might you in the future; do you entertain; do you like an eat-in kitchen; is your kitchen more like a living room”.
As the trend moves to informal living where a space might incorporate a kitchen, a dining area, a seating area and a playroom, the designers can suggest paint colours for the walls and flooring and most of the kitchens can even extend into the living areas to provide coordinated storage. Mel continues, “All our designers are design trained, from creative, artistic backgrounds, heavily involved and excited by the kitchen industry but with the exuberant personalities you’d expect from Habitat”. Essentially Habitat provides you with someone to hold your hand throughout the entire process from cutlery drawer options to your first dishwash.
So how do you get started? Appointments can be booked in person at one of our stores or online. At the initial meeting, information will be taken to include what style you are looking for, specific ideas, details and materials you would like to incorporate. If you already have a plan, great, if not, Habitat offers a home visit to measure up at no extra cost. Our designers can then use software to build up a very realistic picture of what your new kitchen will look like.
Subsequent meetings to discuss amendments and make changes can happen over email or in person. Quotes are broken down into cabinetry, appliances, worktop and installation so you see exactly where the costs are and plan relevant to your circumstances. Once you’re ready to give the go ahead, it’s the little details that make all the difference. Your designer will visit your home to double check all the measurements and check that utilities are in the correct places; should you pick the full installation service, the installer will conduct a pre-site visit to check access, parking and any pre-works. All this ensures there are no surprises on D day.
All this and a 24 year guarantee on cabinetry and 5 years on our installation.
