A little care and attention will go a long way to keeping your sofa in tip top condition, and many years of comfort and good looks – which is hopefully why you bought it in the first place. Follow our pointers and give yoursome love.
Accidents happen and nothing beats professional cleaning to get the best results. But for small spills, resist the urge to rub at the stain (this only works to drive it further into the cushion padding), instead wipe yourgently with a damp (not wet) cloth and immediately wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Vacuum or brush the fabric on a weekly basis to remove dirt which can contribute to wear and tear and colour fading. Keep your sofa away from heat and light sources to minimise fading.
CARING FOR LEATHER
Do your best to completely avoid spillages but, if the worst happens, wipe straight away with a damp (not wet) cloth and follow immediately afterwards with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use solvent-based cleaners and take great care to keep sharp objects away from the sofa as any cuts or scuffs to leather could prove impossible to fix. Keep theaway from sources of bright light and heat for prolonged periods of time, or fading could result. Vacuum gently any cracks and crevices.
PLUMP & ROTATE
This is your mantra for sofa magnificence. Remove all the cushions and, holding from the opposite sides, give them a good squeeze to reshape them. If the cushions are double-sided (ie. the same material on each side) rotate them to ensure each side is getting the same amount of wear. Aim to complete this routine once a month for foam-filled cushions and once a week for cushions filled with feathers.
