At Home With…Lily Pebbles & Anna Newton

We’re delighted to be sponsoring the second series of ‘At Home With…’, the chart-topping podcast brought to you by online content creators, Lily Pebbles and Anna Newton.

Tune in to their podcast to hear them interview a whole bevy of guests, from beauty industry royalty Liz Earle to YouTube star Zoella, while they enjoy a sneaky snoop around their homes. We caught up with the podcast duo to find out their favourite interiors Instagram accounts to follow, top homeware picks and what we can expect from series 2 of ‘At Home With…’

How do you both know each other?

Anna: Lily and I met at a blogging event six years ago. We both followed each other’s blogs and knew of each other because we both worked in similar PR roles for rival companies and had seen the other at multiple blogging events in the evening. I always thought that Lily looked way too cool to chat too, but one evening I wandered over to say hello. We bonded over our love for blogging, our snooping bosses who wanted us to spy on the other and the rest is history.

How did the podcast come about?

Anna: The podcast felt like it was years in the making, but the process really came together over 12 months where we practiced by doing test runs, sourced guests and worked on the format. It’s something that we’d both always wanted to do – I am such a fan! I listen to at least one podcast every day and it felt like a really fun and different project to get our teeth into. Our U.S.P is that we record our episodes in our guest’s home so that they’re in their most relaxed place and we get to have a snoop at the same time. It’s interiors inspiration heaven!

Whose home has been your favourite so far and why?

Anna: This is tough! Everyone’s home is completely different and unique and it’s really encouraged me to add some more personal touches to my own home. However Terry De Gunzburg – the founder of the beauty line By Terry and former Creative Director at YSL Beauty – had an incredible home. Her and her husband collect art and their living space was breathtaking. So much personality and so many one-of-a-kind pieces. She was also a great guest; chatting away in her bathroom and showing us all these secret formulations that she was working on.

Lily: They’ve all been completely different and beautiful for all different reasons. This is a bit of a sneak peek as the episode hasn’t gone live yet, but if I had to pick, probably Lucy Williams. It wasn’t huge and conventionally show-stopping like some of the others but it’s somewhere I could see myself living. She’d done so much with quite a small space and the open plan living room/kitchen that goes out into the most incredibly styled courtyard was so calming, I could have stayed there all day! I came away from her flat feeling inspired to style up my own space.

Are you generally friends with the personalities you feature?

Anna: Yes! Most of the time we have met our guests before, or have some kind of connection to them. Either we’re mates, or they work for a brand that we love! It’s meant that we get a real mix of people on the show; from Lisa Eldridge who is our favourite makeup artist, to Tanya Burr, a YouTuber who we’ve known for years.

What’s your own home like? How would you describe your own interiors style?

Lily: Well I’m currently in the middle of a home renovation, so my home is like a building site but it will be amazing when we move back in, I can’t wait! Our last flat was all white, it had to be because it was tiny but with this place I’ve tried to be more bold with my decisions. There’s a lot going on, dark navy in the lounge, a concrete wall in the kitchen, pink tiles in the downstairs toilet, yellow tiles in the shower and an entirely pink bedroom (using Farrow & Ball Setting Plaster). I like to mix classic styles with more trend driven pieces and I love a bit of greenery in a home too. I think a home in the UK should feel cosy but clean and not at all precious – a home should be lived in and enjoyed.

Anna: In our household we’re both neat-freaks, so we enjoy things being streamlined and minimal. I’d say that our style is very simple and a little Scandi. We’re working on adding a bit more personality to things, but we’re definitely all about less is more.

Whereabouts do you live and why did you choose that particular area?

Anna: I live with my husband in Brighton, which is where I grew up. We love it down here as we’re within walking distance to friends and family and lots of bars and restaurants that we enjoy going to too. We can also wander down to the beach and find ourselves down there weekly – especially during the summer. You get the best of both worlds down here; we’re a short drive to the countryside, have a cool city a short walk away, can always have a dip in the sea and can get to the capital with a short train journey if we fancy a taste of London.

Lily: I live in London and have done my whole life (apart from a stint in Birmingham for Uni). I love London and the endless options you have. You can still get the country feel on the outskirts and I spend a lot of time on the Heath which is beautiful, but you’re also so close to everything. I love trying new restaurants, markets, going to the theatre and I can’t imagine not living amongst all the culture and excitement that London brings.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Anna: If I could live anywhere else in the world I think it would be L.A (mainly for the weather and the amazing food!).

Lily: London would always be my number one, but I’ve always loved New York too, especially Brooklyn! Or LA… but not forever, the fact no-one walks around would drive me mad!

Where do you find interiors inspiration?

Anna: I often find myself scrolling through Instagram and saving any pictures that make me drool! It means that whenever I’m feeling a bit stuck for inspiration, the saved section of my IG is exactly what the doctor ordered. Magazines are great too and I love to make mood-boards, either the old school way or online to group ideas for rooms together.

Lily: I like magazines like Living Etc or Elle Decoration but most of my inspiration comes from Instagram!

Which interiors-based Instagram accounts would you recommend?

Anna: Aside from the Habitat account, I love @thefrugality, @erica_davies, @mad_about_the_house and @mydomaine. @bobbyberk from Queer Eye posts some great stuff too!

Lily: Like Anna, I think @erica_davies and @mad_about_the_house are great. I also love to follow @Rebecca.wakefield, @housecurious and @restoringlansdowne

What can listeners expect from upcoming episodes?

Anna: We’ve switched up the format a little this year to include a studio-recorded intro, which has meant that we’re able to give a well-deserved intro to our guests and give a bit more BTS-context to the episode. So the episodes are a little longer and I feel like the whole vibe is a bit more relaxed and chatty. Plus we have some swoon-worthy homes in the pipeline!
