With just over a month to go, the festive season is truly upon us. We’re always sure to mark it with our annual visit to a London ice rink. Whether you’re whizzing or tentatively scuttling around, doing so in in the shadow of some of capital’s most iconic buildings is entirely magical. Whilst we could pick out some of the more alternative options (a rink atop the River Thames, anyone?), we think this is an event best served with a dose of the traditional city experience. Judges, your scores, please…
GOLD: Skate at Somerset House
A regal rink in the quadrangle of the 18th century palace, club nights with world class DJ’s providing the tunes, catering and shopping by Fortnum & Mason’s. We rest our case.
Until 15 Jan 2017
SILVER: Natural History Museum Ice Rink
Skate in the foreground of, in our opinion, one of London’s most beautiful buildings. There’s even a smaller rink for those who need to find their feet before hitting the main event.
Until 8 January 2017
BRONZE: Luminocity at Canary Wharf
Head to the home of London’s economy and skate amongst the towers of power. 8km of LED lights have been laid beneath the ice to bathe skaters in the glow of 16 million colours. The rink is covered so it’s a big tick for wet weather whooshing.
Until 25 February 2017
