Celebrate British Flowers Week with Adam Prest

This week, we celebrate British Flowers Week which kicks off today and runs until 19 June. From its base in the world-famous New Covent Garden Market, British Flowers Week is an annual event which aims to champion the vast amount of cut flowers that our little island produces. Various events will be taking place around the country geared to florists and flower lovers alike. Check out the schedule here.

Adam Prest is one of Habitat’s favourite floral designers. He is known for his exuberant floral displays and his energetic personality and we are thrilled to showcase his work.

Adam’s style is as unorthodox and exciting as his entry into the floral world. Starting with arranging flowers grown on his parent’s farm at the age of 8, Adam won rosettes at his local village show. A few years later, wearing one of his own buttonholes at a wedding he was attending, he caught the eye of the venue’s owner and was commissioned to provide arrangements for her hotel. After training with Pulbrook and Gould on Sloane Street, he set up his own floristry business and has a diverse and loyal customer base. Never one for the ordinary, Adam creates his floral displays to reflect each individual client, “I’ve done LA stripper turned Cotwolds keen gardener, with fur, chandelier droplets and continus. Foliage is important. Continus is the sexiest foliage in the world!”

Adam’s work blends magic, drama and surprise in an elegant balancing act of extravagance and simplicity. He’s even been known to accessorize his florals with animal skulls, neon glow sticks, mini polaroids and tiny porcelain horses.

Treat yourself to a some flowers this week and be inspired by Adam’s arrangements to pick a few you may not have bought before, with the focus being on buying British grown. Floral arrangements in the home have been proven to increase happiness and reduce anxiety and depression, so buying a bunch could be the cheapest therapy you’ve ever had. Now that’s what we call flower power.
