This week, London Time Out magazine has given Habitat’s Tottenham Court Road store a spot in the top 100 shops in London! According to Time Out’s Style team, ‘Habitat’s appeal endures as the most dependable destination for contemporary but affordable furniture’. And we tend to agree!
Can you believe that we opened the second retail branch of Habitat on Tottenham Court Road back in 1965? (the first was in Chelsea in 1964) A mere 49 years ago. A lot of people will be filled with nostalgic memory of Habitat in the sixties, where bright coloured, minimal, modernist furniture shaped the interiors of millions of homes for decades. Fast forward almost 50 years and Habitat still sells well designed, affordable furniture, and we are very proud of it.
For decades, our store has resided at number 196-199 Tottenham Court Road and boasts two floors of design, jam packed full of bold colour and bright patterns (don’t worry all you grey and white fans out there, there is plenty of that for you in store too). The bright and airy space creates a clean backdrop for anyone wanting to be able to walk through the door and imagine the items in their own space at home.
Our new season of homewares will hit the stores over the next few weeks and we are doing what we do best and revisiting fundamental ideas to create simple, logical and well-designed products with a sense of playfulness and bold visual identity. Make sure you look out for the Tatsuma bedroom range which is easily identified by its signature solid ash base and tapered legs. Or perhaps a Japanese inspired aesthetic is more you? Our Soko cabinets, with their birch frame and frosted screens, will make the silhouette of your belongings look very elegant, indeed.
We hope to see you soon!
