Oh Comely Magazine is soon to host an evening of watercolours with artist, Liz Temperley, at our Platform gallery space. If you’ve ever fancied yourself as a bit of a painter, watercolours are one of the most fun mediums to work with and where you can really let your creativity flow. Liz will be teaching the workshop on Wednesday 6 July. Tickets can be booked here.
We had a chat with Liz and talked to her about how fate helped her set up her studio, Blank Inside.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I’m a textile designer by trade. Having just spent the last 8 years in London, I now work out of a little studio in East Sussex painting and drawing by hand all the illustrations for my company Blank Inside. I sell a range of cards, art prints, wrapping paper, mugs and textile pieces adorned with my colourful watercolour illustrations, all my products are made in small quantities in England.
Why did you set up your company?
It started with me making illustrations for presents for friends and family. They wanted to buy them so it generated some extra cash when I first moved to London. I had a small range of cards & prints that I took to market down Brick Lane and I carried on with this in my spare time whilst working as a Design Manager during the week.
About 3 years ago I was made redundant so decided to give my sideline passion a go – sent off samples to lots of stores and decided my dream might be worth it after an order came through.
Tell us a bit about your upcoming event
It will be a fun inspiring evening to take your first step in painting with watercolours. I’m really excited about doing an event in such a creative space, it is really great to inspire others and get more participation and understanding from people about the process creatives go through to offer an end product.
Your interiors love?
Vibrant Moroccan printed textiles with clean white walls, pops of copper and plenty of greenery!
Your interiors hate?
Anything too uniform and lacking in personality, I like lots of colour and mismatched prints!
