Team Habitat is passionate about exploring techniques and celebrating design from all over the world, so we’re very excited about Graphic Africa – an exhibition at Platform, our King’s Road gallery space, for London Design Festival. Graphic Africa showcases the work of 16 designers from across the continent.
The 20 pieces of new furniture and a capsule collection of ceramics, glassware and lighting have been curated by Trevyn and Julian McGowan, who are based near Cape Town. We’ll be profiling each of the designers in Graphic Africa in the Magazine over the next two weeks.
Most of the pieces on show won’t be for sale, so while you won’t be able to leave with a cabinet by Hamed Ouattara or Dokter & Misses (we would love to), you can get the Graphic Africa look at home thanks to a limited-edition cushion collection. It’s a collaboration between West Africa-based textile designer Boubacar Doumbia and Habitat senior designer Rebecca Hoyes. It combines contemporary design with a traditional African technique. We’ll be showing the process in all its glory in the Magazine next week.
Graphic Africa runs from 14 September to 20 October at Platform, Habitat, 208 King’s Road, London.
