Argos Card is changing FAQs
What to expect from your Argos Pay Journey
We recently wrote to you to tell you your Argos Card account would update to an Argos Pay account on 12th April 2026, when it moves to NewDay. To make sure everything goes smoothly, we've decided to take a bit more time to complete the update, and your account will now change to Argos Pay on 26th April 2026.
This means you can continue to use your Argos Card as you do today. And the Argos Pay Agreement we sent you in March will now come into effect on 26th April 2026, not on 12th April 2026 as we previously told you.
In March 2025, we completed the sale of our Argos Card business to NewDay. Argos' new partnership with NewDay means NewDay can continue to give you great value for your purchases on finance at Argos and Habitat by providing you with a wider range of repayment options.
As a result of this partnership, some updates are being made to your Argos Card account – say hello to Argos Pay. Later this year, your account will update to Argos Pay, a digital credit account provided by NewDay.
We're working hard to make sure your journey to Argos Pay is as smooth as possible. With Argos Pay, you can expect a wider range of repayment options, a new app to manage your account and an Online Account Manager if you don't like using an app. Plus, you’ll no longer need your Argos Card as you’ll pay digitally using a username and passcode when you checkout.
Here’s a quick look at what’s been happening and when to expect further information:
February/ March – We've sent you details about the changes to be made to your Argos Card Agreement and account when it updates to Argos Pay in April with a summary of what's changing and an updated Agreement (called the Argos Pay Agreement). Depending on your communication preferences, you'll have received this by email or post. Don’t worry, there won’t be any changes to your credit limit, interest rate or existing payment plans.
March – We’ve sent you info about the new Argos Pay app, including when you’ll be invited to register, your updated account number and how to manage your account digitally after it updates.
March/April – We’re sending you more detailed information to guide you through getting ready for Argos Pay, including a reminder of your updated account number.
April – Welcome to Argos Pay! You'll be contacted when it's time for you to register for the Argos Pay app or Online Account Manager so you can continue to use and manage your account when it updates to Argos Pay.
No, we’ll do all the hard work for you. When the time comes, your account will be updated to Argos Pay automatically – you don’t need to re-apply. Once your account has updated you'll be able to register so you can shop and manage your account online with the Argos Pay app or Online Account Manager.
We’ve been sharing details with our existing Argos Card customers over the last few months, as their accounts are made ready to update to Argos Pay. You can refer back to the letters or emails we've sent you already which detail the changes and when these will happen, or you can find out more about the features of Argos Pay by visiting NewDay's website, click here for more information.
How you use your account today and what's next
Yes, you can continue to use your Argos Card to spend as normal but only up until 11pm Saturday 25th April.
If your Argos Card is lost or stolen, you should let us know immediately by calling us on 03456 400 700. You can continue to report lost or stolen cards to us until 11pm Saturday 25th April. We'll cancel your Argos Card but we won't send you a replacement as a card won't reach you before your Argos Card account updates to Argos Pay.
From Monday 27th April, you won’t need a physical card to shop with Argos Pay. To learn more about the features of Argos Pay now, click here to visit NewDay's website for more information.
No, this option is only available for new customers who have applied for and been accepted for an Argos Pay account, so for the time being, as an existing Argos Card account customer, you should continue to use your Argos Card as usual.
If you attempt to apply for an Argos Pay account, this will be declined, as we’ll be updating your existing Argos Card account to Argos Pay automatically when the time comes. You won’t need to re-apply, and there'll be no further credit check. You'll then need to register for the new Argos Pay app or Online Account Manager but don't worry, we’ll let you know what to expect ahead of time, so the update will be as smooth and simple as possible.
Yes, you can continue to use your My Argos Card App as normal up until 5pm Friday 24th April. From 27th April 2026, once your account has updated to Argos Pay and you've registered, you'll use the brand new Argos Pay app or Online Account Manager instead. The Argos Pay team will get in touch to let you know when you can download and register for the Argos Pay app or register for the Online Account Manager. If you need any help, they'll guide you through registration step by step – it’ll only take a few minutes.
To register, you’ll need:
• Your updated account number - we sent this to you earlier this month but we'll also send you a reminder
• Your online registration number: you'll be sent this by email after the update, or you can request it again during registration
• Your email address
• Your mobile phone to verify it’s you
Make sure your mobile number and email address are up to date. If they need to be updated, you can update them now in the My Argos Card App, or by giving us a call.
Remember, you’ll need to register for the Argos Pay app or Online Account Manager so that you can manage your account and pay with Argos Pay when you shop online at Argos and Habitat.
Registration opens from Monday 27th April, once your account update is complete. You'll need to download the Argos Pay app first or go to the Online Account Manager to register your account. See ‘How do I get set up to manage my Argos Pay account?’ for more information.
From 27th April 2026, after your account has updated, you'll need to download and set up the Argos Pay app or Online Account Manager to use Argos Pay and continue managing your account.
There’s more information on how you’ll register in this handy video guide, click here to view it.
The Argos Pay team will be in touch, by email or post, with everything you’ll need to register for the app or online account manager; but you don’t need to wait for them to contact you. You can simply refer back to the email or letter we’ve sent you which has a step-by-step guide, as well as the account number you’ll need, for registering.
If you need any help along the way, the Argos Pay team will be on hand to guide you through registration step by step – it only takes a few minutes, and you’ll be ready to go.
There will be no change to your interest rate (known as the 'normal credit rate') when your account updates to Argos Pay. However, once your account updates, it will be referred to as the 'standard purchase rate' and it will be linked to the Bank of England Base Rate. We explain this separately in the FAQ 'How does the Bank of England Base Rate affect my interest rate?'
The interest rate (known as the standard purchase rate) that will apply to your account when it updates to Argos Pay will be linked to the Bank of England Base Rate. You can see the current Bank of England Base Rate on their website at: www.bankofengland.co.uk. This means that whenever the Bank of England Base Rate changes, your standard purchase rate will change by the same amount (NewDay won't pass on any changes below 0%). If the rate does change, they'll update your standard purchase rate within seven working days and let you know the new rate on your next statement. For example, if the Base Rate went up or down by 0.25%, your standard purchase rate would also increase or decrease by 0.25%.
Any promotional rates you have (including instalments or Buy Now Pay Later plans) will not be affected by any Bank of England Base Rate changes. Only balances on the standard purchase rate will move in line with the Bank of England Base Rate. Your promotional rates will remain the same for the amount of time you agreed with us or with NewDay, as long as you continue to pay your balance on time.
Deferred interest is backdated interest charged on existing Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) plans that have been set up on your Argos Card account, before your account updates to Argos Pay. It is charged on any balance which is unpaid when the plan ends. So the more you pay before the plan ends, the less deferred interest you’ll be charged. If you repay your BNPL balance by the end of the plan, you will not be charged any deferred interest at all.
Good news: You will not be charged any deferred interest on new Buy Now Pay Later plans which are set up after your account has been updated to Argos Pay. However, NewDay will only continue to charge deferred interest on Buy Now Pay Later plans which were already in place on your Argos Card account at the time of the update.
You will be able to view any existing Buy Now Pay Later plans that were set up on your Argos Card, in the Argos Pay app and Online Account Manager once your account updates to Argos Pay. They will also be shown on your statement.
With Argos Pay, you'll still be able to enjoy the convenience of Click & Collect when shopping online. Argos Pay can’t be used directly at the till when you’re instore, but you'll be able to use your mobile to pay and pick up your items right away (subject to stock availability).
And don’t worry – our store colleagues will always be happy to help you place your order online, on your own smart device, using Argos Pay.
Yes, you can continue to use your Argos Card to shop instore at Argos and online at Argos and Habitat up until 11pm Saturday 25th April.
From 27th April 2026, after your account has updated to Argos Pay, you’ll no longer need your Argos Card as you’ll pay digitally using a username and passcode. You'll also use your mobile to pay online instore and collect your items instantly, subject to stock availability.
Argos Pay is quick and simple to use and if you'd like to find out more about its features, click here to visit NewDay's website for more information.
Yes, you can continue to use your Argos Card instore at Sainsbury’s (excluding the instore Travel Money Bureaux) and in Sainsbury’s petrol stations (excluding Pay-At-Pump) but only up until 11pm Saturday 25th April.
From 27th April, once your account has updated to Argos Pay, you won’ t be able to use Argos Pay as a payment method at Sainsbury’s or Sainsbury’s petrol stations. Please refer to the email or letter from us about the changes in April to your Argos Card Agreement and account which includes a table of changes with a copy of the updated Agreement (called the Argos Pay Agreement) which we sent you in March.
No, for the time being, you should continue to make payments as you do now. For example, you can pay using the My Argos Card App, over the phone using the automated payment line, via Direct Debit or by bank transfer. Remember, if you have a payment arrangement in place, you should continue to make these payments as agreed.
If you previously paid by post (cheque or postal order) we’ve written to let you know that this is no longer an available option. You'll find alternative ways to pay on the back of your statement.
Once your Argos Card updates to Argos Pay,you may need to make some changes to how you make payments. For more information on the payment options that will be available, click here. to visit NewDay's website.

If you already have a Direct Debit set up on your Argos Card account, we're sending you further information by email or post about your Direct Debit before your Argos Card account is updated in April.
When your account updates to Argos Pay, your Direct Debit will switch automatically, so there’s nothing you need to do. Your Direct Debit date won’t change and the minimum, fixed or full payment will be collected, as requested. However, after the update, additional payments made four or more days before your payment due date, may reduce the Direct Debit taken for that month.
For a couple of weeks, you might see two Direct Debits set up in your bank account - one for ‘Home Retail Group Card Services’ (this is the one for Argos Card) and one for ‘NewDay Ltd’ (this is the one for Argos Pay). Don't worry - your payment won’t be taken twice. Please don’t cancel either of the Direct Debits as you could miss a payment; the one for ‘Home Retail Group Card Services’ will disappear after a while.
If you already have a Direct Debit set up on your Argos Card account, this will transfer across to your Argos Pay account automatically, so you won’t miss a payment. See the FAQ Will there be any changes to my Direct Debit? for more information on this. We’ll also send you further information by email or post about your Direct Debit before your Argos Card account is updated in April.
If you usually pay by Standing Order, you’ll need to update the bank details and payment reference with your bank as we cannot do this for you. You should also make sure to check your statement each month to ensure the standing order amount will cover your minimum monthly payment. There’s more information here about these and other payment options, once your account has updated to Argos Pay.
Yes. After your account has updated to Argos Pay, you’ll notice a small change to how your Minimum Payment is calculated. Instead of asking you to pay 1% (for accounts opened before 1 September 2020) or 4% (for accounts opened on or after that date) of your remaining Normal Credit balance, you’ll now pay 1% of the full amount you owe, including any interest and default fees. Although this could result in a lower minimum payment, you can pay as much of your balance as you like each month. If you only make the minimum payment, it will take you longer and cost you more to repay your balance.
If you already have a Buy Now Pay Later plan when your account updates, and if there is an outstanding balance when this plan ends, any deferred interest due that month will still be included in your minimum payment, just like it is today.
When your account updates, any active credit plans will remain on your account and can be viewed through the Argos Pay app or Online Account Manager once you register. You should continue to make payments to your existing plans, but you’ll need to do this via the new Argos Pay app or Online Account Manager.
If you have a credit balance, please get in touch so we can organise a refund. Where possible you should call us before your account updates to Argos Pay. Please contact us on 0345 640 0700, lines are open 8am-6pm Monday to Saturday, Sunday 10am-6pm.
Once your account updates to Argos Pay, you'll need to contact NewDay to arrange any refund. We’ll share NewDay’s phone number and opening hours closer to the time of the update.
We’re no longer accepting new applications for the Argos Card; however, additional cardholders could consider Argos Pay or other credit options that are available. They’ll need to apply using their own details and their application will be subject to status. Click here to find out more.
No, your Argos Pay account will be for your sole use. However, they could consider having their own Argos Pay account or other credit options that are available. They’ll need to apply using their own details and their application will be subject to status. Click here to find out more.
Your credit limit won't change because your account is updating to Argos Pay. However, NewDay (the provider of Argos Pay) regularly reviews credit limits to make sure that customers have the credit limit that they believe is right for them. The assessment of the limit available to a customer is based on a combination of information available from the credit reference agencies and the information that is available about how each customer manages their account. If, after your account updates to Argos Pay, NewDay decide to offer you a credit limit increase or need to decrease your limit, they'll get in touch to let you know. Your current credit limit preferences will be carried across as they are today.
We understand that things can get tough, and we’re still here to support you. If you’re struggling to keep up with payments, please reach out to us — we’ll work with you to identify what options might be available.
If you don’t already have a repayment plan, you can set one up anytime, and it will remain in place after your account updates to Argos Pay.
Once your account has updated, you’ll need to register for the Argos Pay app or Online Account Manager to keep managing your repayments. You'll be contacted when it’s time to download and register for the Argos Pay app or register for the Online Account Manager so you can continue to use and manage your account with Argos Pay.

If you already have a repayment plan, there’s no need to worry - it will continue when your account updates to Argos Pay. Just keep making your agreed payments for now. When your account updates, you’ll manage everything through the new Argos Pay app or Online Account Manager. You’ll need to download and register for this, and we’ll share full instructions closer to the time of the update.
We’ll also give you plenty of notice about your payment options and any steps you may need to take to set these up. In the meantime, you can find more details about managing your account and the payment options coming soon with Argos Pay, on NewDay's website.
If you don’t have a repayment plan yet, you can contact us anytime to set one up, and it will carry over when your account updates to Argos Pay.
If you are already making higher payments to clear your persistent debt balance just keep making your payments as agreed and any additional payments, if you can. When your account updates to Argos Pay, you’ll manage everything through the new Argos Pay app or Online Account Manager instead of the My Argos Card App.
If you are not making higher payments, don’t worry - you can contact us anytime to set up a repayment plan making fixed payments in addition to your regular monthly payments and this plan it will carry over when your account updates.
Shortly after your account has updated to Argos Pay, NewDay (the provider of your Argos Pay account) will be in touch with you regarding repaying the balance on your account.
Yes, you'll continue to receive statements in the same format as you do now, unless you ask NewDay to change this.
If you've opted for paper statements, these will continue to arrive by post.
If you've opted for electronic statements, they will be available in the new Argos Pay app and Online Account Manager. NewDay will notify you by email when new statements are ready.
Once your account has updated to Argos Pay, you'll no longer be able to choose which part of your balance your payment is applied to. However, please be assured that your payments will be allocated in a way that reduces the interest you pay and to maintain any plans you have on your account. For more information on this, head to the FAQs on the Argos Pay help & support page here.
Your payment will continue to be applied to the highest interest part of your balance first. This includes any new Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) plans which are set up after your account updates to Argos Pay, even if the plan is in its final month. This ensures that we minimise the interest you are charged.
However, your payments will be applied a little differently if you set up a new instalment plan, which are being introduced as part of the update to Argos Pay.
If you have an instalment plan, we’ll apply your payments first to the minimum payment due and then to the instalment amount due that month. This is to ensure your plan does not break. If you make additional payments, we’ll apply these to balances at a higher rate of interest first.
For a time, your payment date will stay the same as it is stated on your last statement before the update. When you receive your first statement after the update from Argos Pay, your payment due date will be either 2 or 3 days earlier than it used to be. If this doesn't suit you, you can update your payment date in the Argos Pay app on Online Account Manager under "More" then select "Change Payment Due Date".
If you’re concerned about making a payment on this new payment date, please let us know so we can understand your circumstances – getting in touch won’t impact your credit file.
You can call us on call us on 0333 240 8002.
Your statement from the last month will be available on the Argos Pay app immediately after your account updates. Older statements up to 6 months prior will be available digitally not too long after. We'd recommend you download these before the update, if you think you might need them for anything urgent.
Once your account has updated, NewDay will be the credit provider, the people behind your Argos Pay account. They will manage your account and their award-winning support team will be on hand to help you after the update.
